SPECIAL TIDEWATER CAMELLIA CLUB PLANT SALE

NOVEMBER MEETING

On Tuesday, November 18, 2008, the Interim Executive Director of the American Camellia Society, Ann Walton, and the ACS Horticuclturist, Doug Ruhren, will be at our monthly meeting.  Doug will give a talk on "Camellia Horticulture and ACS 2009 Goals".  When  Betty Gail and I were recently at the ACS headquarters in Fort Valley, GA, I noticed that they had camellias for sale.  These camellias come from  nurseries  in the Fort Valley area and many of the varieties are not readily available in our area.  Doug picked out over 50 varieties that he can get for us and bring then to our meeting.  This is a very special opportunity to obatin "show quality" camellias for your collection at a very reasonable price.  I have attached a Microsoft Word document, ACS_Ruren_111808.doc which describes the camellias which Doug can get for us.

If you are interested in buying any of the ACS camellias, we are going to use the same procedure that we used when Bob Black from Bennett's Creek Nursery visited us last year: (1) All camellias must be pre-ordered by November14, (2) the camellias can be picked up at my home, 1719 Verrazzano Drive 509-1792 (3) you can pick up the camellias any time after November 18th.  This worked well in the past and everyone got what they ordered.  The selection is great and the price is very reasonable for such high quality camellias!!!!  Below is the list, the same as the attached.  Ed's Choice are ones that Ed Powers has chosen and that he thinks are especially good varieties i. e., one that do well in shows.

If you want to order any of these truly outstanding varieties, please call me at 509-1792 or preferably send me an email at tidewatercamellia@ec.rr.com.  Also note that the last item below, C. yuhsienensis is described in detail in the attachment Camellia yuhsienensis.pdf.  The is a species (analogous to japonica, reticulata, sasanqua, etc).  It's not something that your neighbor is likely to have.
